In Summary

The NGC will deliberate on key political and governance matters when it meets next week, including the implementation of the government’s manifesto, party elections, and ongoing political engagements.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will convene a Special National Governing Council (NGC) meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, bringing together all elected and nominated leaders of the ruling party for high-level consultations.

According to a statement from the party, the meeting will take place at 8:00 a.m. at State House, Nairobi, and will be chaired by UDA Party Leader and President William Samoei Ruto.

The Special NGC will assemble UDA’s entire elected leadership, including governors and their deputies, senators, members of the National Assembly, women representatives, representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), and members of county assemblies (MCAs). Nominated party leaders will also attend the meeting.

“As a result of the foregoing, the party shall hold a Special National Governing Council (NGC) on Monday, 26th January 2026 at 8:00 AM. The NGC brings together all UDA elected leaders (Governors, Deputy Governors, Senators, Members of National Assembly, Women Representatives, Representatives to EALA, and MCAs) and nominated leaders,” Secretary General Hassan Omar said.

“The meeting will be chaired by the Party Leader, President, William Samoei Ruto, at State House, Nairobi.”

The National Governing Council is the party’s top decision-making organ between National Delegates Conferences and plays a critical role in shaping policy direction, political strategy, and party governance.

The NGC will deliberate on key political and governance matters when it meets next week, including the implementation of the government’s manifesto, party elections, and ongoing political engagements.

According to details released ahead of the meeting, the NGC will receive a comprehensive scorecard on the progress of implementing the government manifesto, The Plan – Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The scorecard is expected to outline milestones achieved so far and identify areas requiring further attention as the administration advances its economic and social reform agenda.

The Council will also receive a report from the National Elections Board (NEB) on the conduct and outcomes of the party’s grassroots elections. The report is expected to provide an update on the status of the elections, assess compliance with party rules, and highlight any challenges encountered during the process.

In a significant political development, the NGC will be asked to ratify a resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) mandating the Party Leader to commence structured negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The move signals a potential deepening of political engagement between the ruling party and the main opposition, amid ongoing efforts to foster political stability and bipartisan cooperation.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to shape both the party’s internal organization and its broader political strategy, particularly in relation to governance priorities and inter-party relations.
